World Sugar Awareness Week 2021
Our first Sugar Awareness Week will take place 8-14 November 2021! The theme of this year's campaign is 'Sweet or Sour'
Sugary drinks are one of largest contributors to global sugar intake. Too much sugar in our diets is linked to weight gain, obesity, type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and dental caries. Despite recommendations to limit intake of sugary drinks, sales are increasing worldwide, especially in low- and middle-income countries as a result of heavy marketing.
For our first Sugar Awareness Week, we will be tackling sugary drinks with the aim of raising awareness of the harmful effects of these drinks, as well as discussing the various policy actions available to address high and growing consumption.
It’s time for governments around the world to say enough is enough and take action to reduce the sugar - before our health turns sour.
