World Action on Salt. Sugar & Health

Get Involved

Anyone can take part in the week, and there are a number of ways to get involved!

Social Media

  • Join us on Twitter and Instagram! We'll be using the hashtag #SaltAwarenessWeek on our social media accounts - use this on your posts too so that we can see them and retweet!
  • Prepare a social media strategy for the week, with plenty of images, videos and salt reduction messages to engage your network

Events during the week

  • Decide on relevant supporting events such as presentations to government departments, schools or health care professionals
  • Decide who to invite to speak and who to attend – send out letters/email
  • Send out brief overview of the week to non-governmental organisations and journalists to advertise the week

Press release

  • Use the salt reduction message to prepare a short press release
  • Distribute to local and national journalists and media outlets. Be prepared to dicuss Salt Awareness Week in print or on the radio!
  • Talk about the press release on your social channels

Get Writing

  • Write to your favourite food companies to ask them to put less salt in their products - did you know that the level of salt in products varies between countries? If some countries are getting lower salt products that still taste good, why aren't all countries?
  • Write to your representatives in local or national government and ask them what steps they are taking to make sure your health is protected against unnecessarily salty food

If you are getting involved in Salt Awareness Week, we'd love to hear about it! Email us at wash@qmul.ac.uk with your updates.
